Chad Zallow, Jaynee Corbett Win Events at Armory's Dr. Sander Invitational

New York City - Youngstown State's Chad Zallow won the 60m dash and Jaynee Corbett took first in the shot put to lead a solid effort by the men's and women's track and field teams on Friday at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory.

Zallow won the 60m hurdles running a time of 7.66 seconds in a great race against Syracuse's Angelo Goss. Zallow beat Goss by 0.05 seconds as Goss crossed the finish line with a time of 7.71 seconds.

Corbett won the shot put with a throw of 15.14m. She had the same distance as UConn's Divine Oladipo, but Oladipo's throw was on her fifth attempt while Corbett's came on her second try. Corbett was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.29m.

In the team standings, the men finished second with 57 points finishing behind Texas A&M Kingsville which had 68. Overall 31 men's teams had competitors. YSU placed ahead of Syracuse, Rutgers, Georgetown, Villanova and Missouri.

The women were fifth out of 37 teams scoring 46 points. YSU finished ahead of Villanova, Wisconsin, Florida Atlantic, UCLA, South Carolina and Penn.

Amber Eles tied her school mark in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.44 seconds in the finals. Eles finished fifth as the top five were all within 0.07 seconds of each other.

Abby Jones 1.68m in the high jump placed her second behind Brown's Carly Paul (1.71m). Ryan Booth was second in the shot put with a throw of 16.40m 

Jaliyah Elliott was second in the 60m dash with a time of 7.58 seconds finishing just 0.05 seconds back of first. YSU had three runners in the 60m finals. Keishawnna Burts finished fourth at 7.66 seconds and Taylor Thompkins was sixth running a 7.80 seconds. Elliott was seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 25.22 seconds. 

Dylan Latone placed third in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.65m.

Carl Zallow was fourth in the 200m with a time of 22.25 seconds and was seventh in the 60m dash running a time of 7.03 seconds.

Ryan Sullivan placed fifth in the 3,000m running a time of 8:37.37 while Ethan Wilson finished eighth running a 8:38.57.

Tim Holzapfel cleared 1.94m in the high jump (second attempt) to finish sixth, leap of 6.73m in the long jump placed him fifth 

Daiquain Watson cleared 1.90m in the high jump to finish seventh and was ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.31m.

In the 3,000m, McKinsie Klim placed eighth running a time of 10:21.49. Finishing right behind McKinsie was her sister Michelle who was ninth with a 10:28.72.

Kaitlyn Merwin was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 12.77m.

The Penguins are next in action next Friday and Saturday at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
