Bowling Earns Two Wins in Opening Day of Track Kat Klash

The Youngstown State bowling team picked up a pair of victories on the first day of the Track Kat Klash on Friday in Houston, Texas. The event is being held at Emerald Lanes and hosted by Sam Houston State.

After five Baker matches, the Penguins are 16th in total pins at 4,348. YSU posted an average of 869.6 per match and 173.92 per game.

Louisiana Tech rallied in the final two games to edge Youngstown State 875-868 in the first match of the day, but the Penguins responded to beat Texas Southern 902-855 in what was their highest-scoring round in Baker play. YSU then lost its next two matches to No. 5 Stephen F. Austin (1,044-878) and No. 19 UAB (996-865) before finishing the day with an 835-798 win over Jackson State.

The Penguins will begin traditional play on Saturday with a positioning round against 14th-place Maryville at 10:30 a.m. ET. YSU will then bowl four straight matches against top-20 opponents - No. 12 Delaware State, No. 17 Tulane, No. 20 Prairie View A&M and No. 1 McKendree – to close out the day.
