Mitzel in Top Five; Penguins in Sixth After Day One

Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. - Youngstown State freshman Allison Mitzel is tied for fifth place after the first round of the Horizon League Championships at the Mission Inn Resort. YSU is in sixth place in the team standings.

Mitzel had an opening round 82 and is just three shots off the pace. Butler's Claire Cornelius and Detroit's Lindsey Lammers had 79s on Friday. Mitzel is tied with two other golfers for fifth.

In the team standings the Penguins are sixth, but are just eight shots out of second. Butler took a commanding first-round lead carding a 331. YSU had an opening team score of 350. Detroit is in second with a 342, Cleveland State is third with a 344, Loyola is fourth at 345, Green Bay is fifth with a 349 while Valparaiso is on behind the Guins at 351.

Sarah Heimlich is tied for 13th after a first-round score of 87. Other scores for the Penguins included a 90 by Sana Khan, a 91 by Aislynn Merling and a 92 by Angela Molaskey.

The second round is set for Saturday morning.
