Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. -- The Youngstown State women's golf team had two golfers place in the top seven at the Horizon League Championships which concluded on Sunday at the Mission Inn Resort.
Freshman Allison Mitzel finished fourth in her first Horizon League Championships appearance while junior Sarah Heimlich placed seventh. Both golfers earned all-tournament honors for their performances.
Mitzel carded the low round of the tournament on Sunday with a 78. On Sunday, Mitzel's round featured two birdies and seven bogeys. She finished in fourth place with a 240 for the Championships. She was just two shots back of Loyola's Ann Vrdolyak and Detroit's Lindsey Lammers. Mitzel was one back of third-place finisher Butler's Clare Cornelius who had a 239.
Heimlich had a final round score of 84 and finished with a three-round total of 250 for the event. Heimlich overcame an 87 on the first day with a 79 on the second day. She had two birdies during the final round.
Freshman Aislynn Merling continued her bounce back tournament with an 86 for her final round. She improved each day during the event and placed 27th with a 265.
In the team race, Youngstown State placed fifth with a three-round score of 1,024 with rounds of 350, 339 and 335. Butler (984) won the event by 25 strokes over Detroit and Loyola (1,009). Placing fourth was with a 1,015. YSU was ahead of Green Bay, Valparaiso and UIC.
