Charleston, S.C. - The Youngstown State women's golf team posted a 2-1 record to earn a fifth place finish in the Oyster Shuck Match Play event at Patriots Point Links in Charleston, S.C.

The Penguins dropped their first round matchup on Monday morning to Appalachian State 3.5 - 1.5 as Katlyn Shutt won her match 3&1 and Gabby Minor tied hers.

The loss led to a second-round matchup against Gardner-Webb in the consolation bracket on Monday afternoon. The Penguins tied the Runnin' Bulldogs 2-2 as Megan Creager won her match 3&2 and Courtney Shutt took hers 1UP.

YSU was forced to forfeit one match due to Katlyn Shutt and Gabby Minor being held out of the second round by coach's decision. Shutt and Minor each missed the entire fall season due to injuries and Head Coach Nate Miklos wants to work them back into the lineup with caution.

As a result of the 2-2 tie, the second-round match went to a playoff which Courtney Shutt won with a birdie on the second hole. With the win, the Penguins advanced to face The Citadel in the fifth place match on Tuesday morning.

Youngstown State earned a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs in the third round match to earn a fifth place finish overall. Megan Creager won her match 2&1, Courtney Shutt took hers 4&3 and Katlyn Shutt won 5&3.

The Penguins will be back in action March 6-7 for the Seminole State Invitational at Timacuan Golf Club in Lake Mary, Fla.
