The Youngstown State women's soccer team (4-10-1, 0-6 Horizon League) hosts Detroit Mercy, Wednesday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex. The Penguins will also be wearing Breast Cancer Awareness t-shirts during pregame warmups.
Last Time Out
The Penguins dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision UIC on OCt. 14. Senior Marissa Martin scored her third goal of the season off an assist from senior Sophie McFarland. Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Moffett also recorded four saves.
About Detroit Mercy
The Titans enter the match with an overall record of 3-11-1 and a 0-6 Horizon League mark. The Titans have lost six straight matches, including a 3-2 overtime setback at Cleveland State on Oct. .14. Leading the Titans is Rachel DeLuca with five goals and five assists for a total of 15 points. Kelli Doyle and Rachel Russo each have four goals. Goalkeeper Marina Manzo has collected four shutouts and owns a 1.46 goals-against average.
The Detroit Mercy Series
This is the 20th meeting between Youngstown State and Detroit Mercy in a series that dates back to 2000. The Titans own an 18-1 advantage in the all-time series. Youngstown State's lone victory was a 2-1 win in 2015 at Farmers National Bank Field.
Martin Moves into 10th
With her goal against UIC, senior Marissa Martin posted the 10th goal of her career and third of this season. Martin now ranks ninth all-time with 10 career goals and tied for 11th with 21 points. Martin has also played and started in 68 straight matches.
Junior Alison Green stepped up her offensive production recently. Green scored each of the Penguins' goals against Cleveland State and Oakland. The goals were Green's first two of the year and the fourth and fifth of her career.
Lum Climbing Charts
Senior Kyler Lum continues her climbing up the YSU all-time scoring charts. With her goal against Northern Kentucky, Lum moved into a tie for fifth on the career goals chart with 12 and into a tie for seventh with 29 career points. With her next assist or goal, she will become just the seventh player in school history to score at least 30 points in a career. She also ranks tied for ninth all-time with 79 career shots.
Moffett Nets Career High
Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Moffett turned in the best match of her young career on Sept. 17. She recorded a career-high 11 saves in a 1-1 tie against Duquesne. She also came out top in four 1v1 situations to keep the score at 1-1 during regulation time. Moffett again came up with a penalty save in the first OT period.
Four Straight Shutouts=School Record
The Penguins set a school record with four straight shutouts from Aug. 21 through Sept. 1. Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Moffett became the first YSU goalkeeper in program history to collect four consecutive shutouts. In those matches, Moffett has posted 12 saves.
