Women's Soccer Opens League Play at Wright State, Hosts Duquesne

The Youngstown State women's soccer team opens Horizon League play when it visits Wright State, Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. The Penguins return home to close out non-league play against Duquesne, Sunday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Penguins dropped a pair of matches to Eastern Michigan, 1-0, and Western Michigan, 3-0.

About Wright State
The Raiders enter the match with a 4-4 overall record and is coming off a 1-0 loss to Bowling Green on Sept. 10. The Raiders are led by Sarah Colvin with three goals for six points and Niki Romero with a pair of goals and an assist for five points.

The Wright State Series
This is the 20th meeting between Youngstown State and Wright State in a series that dates back to 1996. The Raiders own a 16-1-2 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last two contests. The Penguins' lone win was a 2-1 overtime victory in 2012 at Stambaugh Stadium. Last season, the Raiders won in overtime, 2-1, at Farmers National Bank Field. 

About Duquesne
The Dukes enter the week with a 3-2-1 overall record and is coming off a 1-1 tie against Seton Hall on Sept. 10. The Dukes also play Akron on Sept. 15. Duquesne is  led by Linnea Faccenda with three goals and an assist for seven points and Katie O'Connor with two goals and an assist.

The Duquesne Series
This is the 10th meeting between Youngstown State and Duquesne is a series that dates back to 1996. The Dukes own a 7-1-1 record over the Penguins in the all-time series. Last season, the teams played to a 1-1 tie and the Penguins win was a 2-1 victory in 2012.  

Lum Now In Top 10
Senior Kyler Lum has moved into the top 10 in a pair of career statistical categories after scoring four goals and nine total points last week. Lum now ranks ninth on the all-time list with 25 total points and 10 goals.

Four Straight Shutouts=School Record
The Penguins set a school record with four straight shutouts from Aug. 21 through Sept. 1. Sophomore goalkeeper Kylee Moffett became the first YSU goalkeeper in program history to collect four consecutive shutouts. In those matches, Moffett has posted 12 saves.

Martin Moves into 10th
Senior Marissa Martin also moved into the top 10 in career goals scored. Martin, who has two goals this season, ranks tied for 10th with nine career goals.

Lavin Nets First Career Goal
Senior Courtney Lavin scored her first career goal at the perfect moment. Lavin placed a cross from Sydney Ossege into the lower-right corner of the net in the 80th minute to break a scoreless tie and the Penguins held on to defeat Fort Wayne, 1-0, on Sept. 1.
