Youngstown, Ohio - Howard's Aleeya Sawyer scored off an assist from Kendall Macauly in the 66th minute to seal a 2-0 victory against the Youngstown State women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins fall to 0-1-1 on the year while the Bison improve to 1-1-0.
Howard got the scoring started in the first half when Jasmin Miller scored in the 24th minute on a breakaway goal. During the first half, sophomore goalkeeper Kate McEachern made three saves on seven shots.
In the second half, Youngstown State had plenty of scoring opportunities but were unable to climb out of a 2-0 deficit. The Penguins outshot Howard 12-3, and forced the Bison's goalkeeper to make three saves.
The Penguins outshot Howard, 15-10, and held the advantage on corner kicks, 7-4. Freshman midfielder Luca Fahmer lead the way with five shots with four other Penguins tallying two shots a piece.
Youngstown State is back in action on Friday, Aug. 24, when they host Buffalo at 7 p.m.
