Jurinovics Takes First As Penguins Compete In Day One Of Illinois Duals

Champaign, Ill. - The Youngstown State women's swimming and diving team had a strong first day at the Illinois Duals hosted by Illinois at the ARC Pool.

Highlighting the day was a winning effort by freshman Aida Jurinovics. Jurinovics took first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of with a time of 10:33.20. In the 500 free, she was second posting a time of 5:09.67. 

Taylor Bishop had a solid day as well. She was second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.27 seconds and finished fourth in the 1,000-yard free with a time of 10:44.88. 

In the 100-yard butterfly, Rachel Shipp was second with a time of 58.60 seconds while Haley Fisher placed third swimming a time of 58.65 seconds.

Diver McKenzie Stelter earned a pair of second-place finishes. In the one-meter Stelter was second with a score of 251.60 points while Bethany Glick was third with a 218.50. In the three meter, Stelter was second with a score of 257.10 and Glick was third at 234.60.

YSU went second and third in the 100-yard backstroke as Viktoria Orosz placed second with a time of 59.19 seconds and Jamie Leming was third swimming a 59.33 seconds. Orosz was third in the 200 free with a time of 1:57.13 while Paris Krug was fourth at 1:57.39. Krug was also fourth in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.98. 

Tiphaine Saint-Gilles placed third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.09. Kolbrun Jonsdottir was fourth in the 50 free with a time of 25.19 seconds.

YSU was third in both relay races. In the 200-yard medley relay, the Penguins had a time of 1:50.71 and clocked a 1:41.39 in the 200 free relay.
