Penguins Remain Hot; Win Sixth Straight Dual

Boardman – The Youngstown State women's tennis team won its sixth straight dual beating Ball State 5-2 on Saturday night at the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU won the doubles points and four singles matches to knock off the Cardinals.

In singles play, YSU was victorious at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles after taking two of three matches to win the doubles point. With the win, YSU is now 6-2 while Ball State falls to 7-4.

At No. 1, Paula de Man remained perfect on the season with a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 victory over Courtney Wild. Mart Burak continued her strong play with a 6-4, 6-4 dispatching of Ayaka Terashi 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Lauren Hankle had a strong performance at No. 5 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Kristel Saunders. At No. 6, Annina Brendel continued her winning streak with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Ashlyn Rang.

In doubles play, YSU started strong by taking two of three matches, including a thrilling 9-8 win at No. 2. At No. 1, Burak and Margarita Sadovnikova earned an 8-6 win over Wild and Courtney Earnest. At No. 2, de Man and Hankle picked up a 9-8 (7-4) win over Bethany Moore and Saunders to earn the point.

The Penguins are back in action next Sunday, March 3 when they visit Ohio State.  The match is set for 6 p.m. in Columbus.
