Penguins Pick Up First Dual Win at Akron Since 2000

Stow, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a big 4-3 win over Akron on Thursday afternoon at the Latuchie Tennis Center.

YSU (6-9) took two of three matches to win the doubles point from the Zips (10-7). The team's split the six singles contests with a win by Imaan Hassim at No. 4 clinching the match for the Guins. YSU has won six of its last eight dual matches.

It was the first dual win for YSU at Akron since February 2000. 

In doubles play, Hassim and Noelly Longi Nsimba earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 while Ana Stroe and Anastasiia Khokhlova picked up a 6-3 win at No. 3.

The Zips won in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 and took a 3-2 lead in the dual before the Guins won the final two completed matches. At No. 6, Cassandra Moraleja picked up a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win to knot the contest at three. Hassim won her first set before dropping the second against Anna Uljanov. In the third, Hassim pulled out a 7-6 (2) win to claim the victory for the Guins. Hassim trailed 4-1 in the third set before pulling out the come-from-behind victory.

Also winning in singles was Khokhlova who won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.

The Penguins open Horizon League play on Saturday, March 24 when they play host to Milwaukee.
