Youngstown -- Lauren Krupsky had 14 kills, and Catherine Ludwig dished out 42 assists to lead Central Michigan to a three-set sweep (25-13, 25-14, 25-17) of the Youngstown State volleyball team on Saturday evening at the YSU Invitational.
Krupsky was named the tournament MVP, and Ludwig was named to the all-tournament team. The Chippewas hit .427 against the Penguins and improved to 3-0 on the weekend. Central Michigan lost only one set in the three matches.
YSU freshman Marissa Hundelt was also named to the all-tournament team. She added seven kills against the Chippewas to the 32 she had during the first two matches.
The Penguins hit .135 as a team. They had their three best hitting percentage of the season this weekend.
Val DeWeerd added 14 kills, and Jenna Coates had a match-high 15 digs for the Chippewas.
After trailing 2-1 in the first set, the Chippewas scored eight straight points on Lindsey Dulude's serve to go up 9-2. YSU never go closer than six the rest of the way and fell 25-13.
CMU then turned a 10-8 advantage into a 16-9 lead in the second set as it won 25-14.
The Penguins stayed with the Chippewas in the third set and trailed just 19-15 after a Kelsi Bitter kill. Central Michigan, though, closed out the match on a 6-2 run.
Niagara's Hannah Hedrick and Sam Morgan and Howard's Tosin Elebute were also named to the all-tournament team.
Youngstown State will play three matches at the Michigan/adidas Invitational next weekend. The Penguins will face the host Wolverines on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
