Middles Play Well in Volleyball's Loss to Miami (Ohio)

Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Miami hit .379 and averaged 15 kills per set in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) sweep of the Youngstown State volleyball team on Saturday morning.

Haley Kapferer had seven kills to lead the Penguins, and fellow middle hitter Jenna Cavanaugh posted four kills with a .429 attack percentage.

Amy Raseman and Madison Dodd both had 10 kills for Miami, which won for the third straight match. Raseman connected for kills on 10 of  her 15 attacks and did not have an error.

The Penguins had five blocks, and Cavanaugh had three block assists.

The first set had eight ties and six lead changes before the RedHawks closed out the set on a 6-3 run. The Penguins led 7-4 on a Dood attack error, and Miami's biggest lead was the final score.

The RedHawks led the entire second set and converted side outs on 15 of 16 chances en route to the 25-16 set win. The Penguins also had their best offensive showing in the second set with nine kills and a .167 attack percentage. Kapferer had four kills in six attempts to lead YSU.

The third set was tied at 5-5 when Miami scored 16 of the next 20 points to go up 21-9.

The Penguins will play Chicago State Saturday at 5 p.m.
