Volleyball Wins Coppin State Invitational, Matches 2011 Win Total

Baltimore, Md. -- Behind 10 kills in 13 attempts from most valuable player Missy Hundelt and a .410 team attack percentage, the Youngstown State volleyball team beat Chicago State 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 to capture the Coppin State Invitational Tournament Title on Saturday.

The Penguins lost just one set the entire weekend and closed out the tournament by winning 11 consecutive sets. Hundelt finished with 36 kills in 12 sets and hit .356.

Youngstown State improves to 5-2 this season, matching its win total from all of 2011.

Jenna Cavanaugh added eight kills and four blocks, and Jackie Carlisle posted seven kills. Nikki Thompson registered a team-best nine digs, and setter Casey D'Ambrose had eight digs.

The Penguins posted 15 kills without an error in the opening set to hit .625, and they hit .520 in the second set.  They did not trail in the match the score was 5-4 in the third set.

Hundelt had five kills in six swings in the opening set, and YSU went on a 10-1 run to increase a 7-5 lead to 17-6. After the Penguins took a 7-2 lead in the second, Chicago State never got closer than four points. A seven-point run in the third set upped YSU's advantage from 9-8 to 16-8. Cavanaugh was in on three straight blocks during the stretch.

Youngstown State will play its 2012 home opener on Tuesday against Robert Morris at 7 p.m.
