Greensboro, N.C. -- Youngstown State junior Missy Hundelt posted 19 kills and a career-best 21 digs to lead the Youngstown State volleyball team to a four-set victory over UNC Wilmington on Saturday at the Spartan Spiketacular.
The win gives the Penguins a 10-4 record at the end of non-conference play. That represents the most non-conference wins in a season for YSU since 1999. Mark Hardaway also tied the school record for the most wins by a first-year head coach.
Hundelt was one kill away from becoming the first player since Jessica Fraley in 2007 to post a 20-20 match. Hundelt had six kills in the first set, four in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth. Seven of her digs came in the fourth set, and she had six in the first, three in the second and five in the third. Hundelt had four block assists for good measure.
"We had a lot of strong performances against UNC Wilmington," Hardaway said. "Missy played a great game offensively and defensively, and Shannon came up with some huge kills as well. Lexi also played a very smart game and came up with some critical plays at crucial points."
The Penguins will start Horizon League play on Friday at defending champion Milwaukee at 8 p.m.
