The Youngstown State volleyball team finished with a split of its two road matches this weekend following a 3-0 loss at Wright State on Saturday. The set scores were 25-22, 25-19, 25-15.
The Penguins, who were coming off a five-set, come-from-behind win at Valparaiso on Friday evening, got nine kills, nine digs and three aces from Sam Brown in the loss to the Raiders. Sarah Varcolla tied for match-high honors with four blocks, and Lauren Blanco finished with 10 digs.
Wright State's Katie Klusman led all players with 14 kills, and the Raiders had seven blocks and 55 digs in holding the Penguins to a .056 attack percentage.
Wright State scored seven consecutive points in the opening set to turn an 11-8 deficit into a 15-11 lead. The Penguins battled back and went ahead 19-17 on a Brown ace, and they also led by two at 20-18. Wright State closed the set on a 7-2 spurt to go up 1-0 in the match.
The Raiders similarly used a 7-2 run in the second set to go up 19-12, and they scored 11 of the final 15 points in the third set to secure the match.
Youngstown State will return home next weekend to host Green Bay on Friday at 6 p.m. and Milwaukee on Saturday at 4 p.m.
