Youngstown State got double digit kills from three different players, including a double-double from Margaux Thompson, in a four-set loss to Wright State on Wednesday evening at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 30-32, 25-16, 25-17, 25-22.

Thompson finished with 11 kills and 15 digs, Sam Brown posted a team-high 13 kills, and Sarah Varcolla registered 10. Varcolla added six blocks, and Lauren Blanco had an impressive 27 digs.

Abby Barcus matched Brown with 13 kills, and Jessie Thornton edged Blanco for match-high honors in digs with 31.

Youngstown State held Wright State to a .118 attack percentage in an opening-set win, but the Raiders hit at least .244 in each of the final three sets.

There were 16 ties and five lead changes in a marathon first set, which saw the Penguins jump out to a 6-1 lead and stave off six set points. A Brown kill capped a 3-0 run that tied the score at 24, and the Penguins forced Katie Klusman into back-to-back errors when the score was tied 32-30.

A Brown kill put the Penguins ahead 4-2 early in the second set, but Wright State scored the next four points and did not trail again en route to a 25-16 win. The Raiders then scored the first seven points of the third set, and, although YSU stormed back to tie the score at 11, never trailed in a 25-17 win.

Youngstown State led 10-6 after an Erin Kalahar kill in the fourth, and the Penguins' final lead of the night came at 12-11. The margin was just 19-18 after Brown's 13th kill of the match, but the Penguins got no closer.

The Penguins will play at Milwaukee on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern.
