Youngstown State got double digit kills from three different players, including a double-double from Margaux Thompson, in a four-set loss to Wright State on Wednesday evening at Beeghly Center. The set scores were 30-32, 25-16, 25-17, 25-22.
Abby Barcus matched Brown with 13 kills, and Jessie Thornton edged Blanco for match-high honors in digs with 31.
Youngstown State held Wright State to a .118 attack percentage in an opening-set win, but the Raiders hit at least .244 in each of the final three sets.
There were 16 ties and five lead changes in a marathon first set, which saw the Penguins jump out to a 6-1 lead and stave off six set points. A Brown kill capped a 3-0 run that tied the score at 24, and the Penguins forced Katie Klusman into back-to-back errors when the score was tied 32-30.
A Brown kill put the Penguins ahead 4-2 early in the second set, but Wright State scored the next four points and did not trail again en route to a 25-16 win. The Raiders then scored the first seven points of the third set, and, although YSU stormed back to tie the score at 11, never trailed in a 25-17 win.
Youngstown State led 10-6 after an Erin Kalahar kill in the fourth, and the Penguins' final lead of the night came at 12-11. The margin was just 19-18 after Brown's 13th kill of the match, but the Penguins got no closer.
The Penguins will play at Milwaukee on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern.
