Rebecca (Wolke) King is the Associate Director of Athletic Academic Services in the Youngstown State Athletic Department. She previously held roles of Academic Advisor and Senior Academic Advisor since joining the department in May 2019, and she began her current position in September 2024.
King and her staff help with tutoring, scheduling and advising student-athletes. She reviews data on academic background of prospects and student-athletes in order to identify potential levels of academic achievement and recommend proposed majors based on strengths, educational needs and NCAA/conference regulations. King also reviews the academic background of prospective student-athletes and participates in campus visits. She works directly with football, men's basketball, and softball student-athletes.
King joined the Athletic Department after spending a year as a counselor in the Penguin Service Center in the university registrar’s office. In that capacity, she provided end-to-end service in records, registration, financial aid, student accounts and other services. She worked with many departments across campus to resolve student issues and provide students with a positive experience.
Prior to her work at the Penguin Service Center, King spent the 2017-18 academic year as an intern in the Athletic Academic Advising Office under veteran Marilyn O’Bruba. She advised student-athletes on their majors and career choices while also assisting students MyPlan assessments and making referrals to appropriate campus resources. She also worked specifically with at-risk student-athletes to provide them with skills for success during their time on campus and after graduation.
King also completed a graduate assistantship with the YSU Division of Student Experience during her time as a master’s degree student. In that role, she implemented and developed the Emerging Leadership Program for sophomores.
King earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Administration from Kent State in 2016, and she earned her Master of Science in Education with a concentration on Student Affairs from Youngstown State in 2018.
