YSU drops to Cleveland State, 110-130
Cleveland - The Youngstown State University women's swimming and diving
team lost their first meet of the
spring season in Thursday's meet
against Cleveland State with a score
of 110-130.
Junior Lena Arens earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle with
a time of 25.94 and was a member of
the winning 200-yard freestyle relay
that also included junior Molly
McAtee and freshman Melissa Wiese
and freshman Erin Carter.
In the diving events, junior Mandie Smail placed first on the
1-meter board, 279.15, while senior
Brandi Goettsch took second, 268.05,
and freshman Kalyn Leveto took
third, 238.85. In the 3-meter
event, Goettsch scored a 275.35 to
win the event while Smail earned a
264.25 for second-place and Leveto
earned a 250.20 for third.
Although the YSU swimmers managed to earn many second and
third-place finishes, it wasn't
enough to put them over the top with
a win Second-place finishes
went to: Wiese, 56.90, 100-yard
freestyle; McAtee, 1:08.03,
100-yard backstroke; freshman
Danielle Blagg, 1:16.96, 100-yard
breaststroke; Carter, 1:07.09,
100-yard butterfly.
The YSU swimming and diving team will host Clarion, Saturday,
Jan. 26, at the Beeghly Natatorium.
