YSU Finishes Seventh in the Horizon
League; Goettsch Earns Honors
Chicago, Ill. -- The Youngstown State University
swimming and diving team finished up
their season with a seventh-place
finish at the Horizon League
Swimming and Diving Championships,
Saturday. The Penguins went 7-4 on
the season.
Senior diver Brandi Goettsch earned the Horizon League
Diver of the Year award for her
performance over the four-day
competition. Goettsch won the
3-meter dive with 458.05 points and
placed second in the 1-meter with a
score of 271.10 points.
Also in the diving events, junior Mandie Smail finished
third in the 3-meter event with a
score of 419.75 while freshman Kalyn
Leveto placed fourth with 405.75
points. Smail also took third in the
1-meter dive, scoring 249.60 points
while Leveto placed eighth, 203.90
points, and senior Courtney Schuller
placed 14th, 173.75.
In the swimming events, freshman Erin Carter placed
14th in the 200-yard freestyle
event, finishing with a time of
2:00.50, and in the 100-yard
backstroke, finishing with a time of
1:02.99, and in the 200-yard
backstroke, finishing with a time of
2:15.10.
In the 1650-yard freestyle event, junior Molly McAtee
finished 18th with a time of
19:10.74 while freshman Erika Gregos
finished 19th, 19:21.93, and
freshman Michelle Von Duhn finished
20th, 19:30.27.
Junior Lena Arens recorded a time of 55.66 in the
100-yard dash to place 16th.
Freshman April Gellatly placed 16th
in the 200-yard butterfly with a
time of 2:37.65. |
