Arnold's Three Wins Not Enough in Close Setback to Cal (Pa.)
Youngstown -- Freshman Olivia Arnold
won both distance freestyle events
and anchored Youngstown State's
winning 800-yard freestyle relay as
the Penguins fell to California
(Pa.) 144.50-142.50 Friday evening
at the Beeghly Natatorium.
YSU won 10 of the meet's 16 events, but Cal's depth was too
much to overcome as at least two
Vulcans scored in every event but
diving. Cal finished the dual meet
season 8-0.
Arnold picked up YSU's first win in the 1,000 free with a
time of 10:47.98 and swam a 5:17.74
in the 500 free. She added a
second-place finish in the 100
breast and teamed up with Jessica
Front, Erin-Michelle Gordon and
Becky Bertuzzi in the free relay.
Brittany Senn also had two individual victories with wins in
the 50 free (25.07) and the 100 free
(54.66), and Bertuzzi added a win in
the 200 free (2:01.51) as the
Penguins swept the freestyle events
for the second-straight meet. Julia
Darling won the 100 breast (1:08.93)
and tied for first in the 200 IM
(2:17.25).
Cortney Harless earned her first collegiate win in the
1-meter board with a score of 218.20
while Kelly Reese tallied a
collegiate-best score of 247.65 in
the 3-meter.
Front grabbed second-place finishes in the 100 free (56.93)
and the 200 free (2:02.29) while
Darling placed second in the 200
breast (2:31.63). Senn added a
second-place finish in the 100 fly
(1:02.51).
The Penguins will take on Cleveland State and UIC on Saturday
at 1 p.m. in Cleveland, Ohio. |
