Men's
Tennis Sweeps Doubles Competition
for Second Time in Weekend Action
Boardman, Ohio --
The Youngstown State men's tennis team won all three
rounds of doubles and picked up two
wins at singles in the close 4-3
loss to Dayton on Sunday morning at
the Boardman Tennis Center. Tom Barth and Scott Kathary
once again started the match off
right in No.1 singles beating
Dayton's Tom Murphy and James
O'Connell 8-3. Jason Trapp and
Ryan Trapp's 9-8 (1) win came over
Michael Rohana and Antonio Rodriguez
in the No. 2 spot. Diego Cerzosimo
and Brian Meek teamed up to beat
David Peyton and Rex Cabrera 8-6 in
the No. 3 spot.
Cerzosimo and Ryan Trapp also won their singles matches.
Cerzosimo knocked off Rohana 7-6
(8), 6-2 while Ryan Trapp defeated
Peyton 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the third
set tie breaker. Freshman Chris
Leson also picked up a win in his
exhibition match beating Rodriguez
8-5.
Head Coach Eric Ronan said that the
team is playing solid at doubles but
come up short in singles play.
"We play better each match", said
Ronan. "All of these competitions
will prepare us for league play."
The
men's tennis team will play Robert
Morris at home on March 18 before
facing Horizon League opponent
Cleveland State. |
