Tennis Defeats St. Francis (Pa.),
6-1

The Youngstown State men's tennis team swept the
doubles competition in the 6-1
victory over St. Francis (Pa.) on
Saturday evening at the
Blair Racquet Club.
The victory marked the Penguins
first win of the spring season. The
Red Flash's only win came at No. 1
singles as Andrei Sandu beat Scott
Kathary 6-7 (3), 2-6.
Kathary
picked up a win at No.1 doubles with
teammate Tom Barth over Sandu and
Jeffrey Seevers 8-4. Barth went on
to defeat Kyle Primeau 6-0, 6-0 at
No. 2 singles.
Brian Meek also came out strong in
singles knocking off Seevers 6-1,
6-1 at the No. 3 spot. Diego
Cerzosimo's win came over Jordan
Kowalski 6-1, 7-6 (5). Ryan Trapp
beat David Kirby 6-4, 6-3 and No. 6
Jason Trapp closed out the evening
with his 6-2, 6-3 win over Tyler
Jones.
In other doubles competition,
Trapp
and Trapp
defeated Kowalski and Kirby 8-4
while
Meek and Cerzosimo
downed
Primeau and Jones 8-0.
Head Coach Eric Ronan was very pleased with how the team
played.
"It
was nice getting the first win of
the season," said Ronan. "Now we
just have to keep playing hard."
The men's tennis team will play the home opener against
Duquesne on Saturday at 5 p.m. |
