Women's Tennis Falls to Albany, 6-1

   St. Bonaventure, N.Y. -- The Youngstown State women's team had to play shorthanded against Albany  in singles and doubles in Saturday afternoon's match hosted by St. Bonaventure University.  Sophomore Anna Volkova gave the Guins a point with her win at singles, but the team ultimately fell 6-1 to the Great Danes.

   With only four members of the team playing, Volkova came out strong at No. 1 singles winning 7-5, 6-2 over Aimee Kern. Tanisha Welch lost  at the No. 2 spot to Susan Ma, 6-3, 6-1, while Kelly Culbertson dropped her match in the No. 3 spot. Junior Irena Lanc extended her match to three sets in a hard fought battle to Kim Wetlman, but ultimately lost 2-6, 6-1, 10-4.

    In doubles action, Welch and Lanc won at No. 2 doubles 8-5. Albany picked up the point with the win at No. 1 singles and the Penguins defaulting at No. 3.

    The women's tennis team will be back in action on Sunday afternoon to take on St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m.
