Cleveland State
Gets Past Women's Tennis, 5-2
Cleveland,
Ohio-- The Youngstown State
Women's tennis team faced Horizon
League opponent Cleveland State in
the second league match-up of the
season on Sunday afternoon. YSU
picked up wins at No. 1 and 2
singles, but the Vikings won the
doubles point and four singles
matches to claim the 5-2 victory.
In
singles action, sophomores Anna
Volkova and Tanisha Welch both won
their matches in the No. 1 and 2
spots. Volkova beat Melissa
Holzinger 7-6, 7-4 in the
tie-breaker and the 6-0 in the
second set. Welch easily defeated
Jenn Meyers, 6-0, 6-0.
At doubles,
senior Emily Thayer also paired up
with junior Irena Lanc for the 8-3
win at No. 1 doubles.
The Penguins
will next travel to Chicago on
Sunday to face Horizon League foe
UIC. Match time is set for 10 a.m. |
