Women's Tennis Downs Valpo 4-0 in Round Two of HL Tournament

    Indianapolis, Ind.-- The Youngstown State women's tennis team continued Horizon League tournament action on Saturday morning against the No. 9 seed Valparaiso. The Penguins swept the doubles matches and had wins at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles in the 4-0 shutout over the Crusaders. YSU will next face the No. 7seed Wright at 4 p.m.

    At doubles, Volkova and Welch won in the No. 1 spot, 8-6. Emily Thayer and Kelly Culbertson picked up the 8-4 at No. 2 and  No. 3 Michelle Fuleky and Hannah Patten earned the 8-6 victory.

    Welch, Fuleky and Irena Lanc all won their singles matches. Welch played at No. 2 defeating Molly Keifer 6-2, 6-2. Fuleky beat Christine Antrobus 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth spot while Lance had the 6-1, 6-1 advantage over Laura Lawson at No. 5. Volkova, Thayer and Culbertson did not finish their matches.
