Women's Tennis
Rolls Past Wesleyan University, 6-1
Stuart,
Fla.- The women's tennis
continued its spring break matches
on Tuesday morning by defeating
Wesleyan University by a score of
6-1. With the win the Penguins
improve to 3-9.
YSU took the early
lead by sweeping all three doubles
matches. Anna Volkova and Tanisha
Welch teamed up at No. 1 singles for
the 8-5 win. At No. 2 singles, Emily
Thayer and Kelly Culbertson easily
beat Casey Simchik
and Linda McDougal,8-1. Hannah
Patten and Irena Lanc rounded out
the doubles matches with the 9-7
win.
At singles, Volkova picked up her
sixth win at No. 1 singles as she
downed Ania Preneta, 6-1, 6-2.
Welch, Thayer and Patten each won
their matches in straight sets while
Culbertson secured her win in the
second set tie-breaker.
The Cardinals lone point came at No.
3 singles as Anika Fischer beat
Irena Lanc, 6-2, 6-2.
The Penguins
wrap will play the final spring
break match tomorrow against Buffalo
at 9:00 a.m. |
