Freshman Jumpers Highlight Season Opener
Kent, Ohio -- Freshman
jumpers Carly Youlton, Yandeh Joh
and Kyle Dalton all turned in
impressive performances in their
first collegiate meet as the
Youngstown State track and field
team kicked off its season at Kent
State's Golden Flash Gala on Friday
and Saturday.
Youlton, who won the long jump at the Canadian
Junior Track & Field National
Championship and placed second in
the long jump in July, placed fourth
in the triple jump with a mark of 36
feet, 8 1/2 inches and added a
ninth-place spot of 17-4 3/4 in the
long jump. Joh placed fifth in the
long jump with a leap of 17-9 1/2
while Dalton placed fourth in the
high jump with a mark of 6-4.
Four YSU women placed in the top 10 in the mile as
Marielle Glanz was third in 5:27.72,
Lindsay Wojciak was fifth in
5:29.07, Gina Mavrikis was sixth in
5:30.49 and Kim Jendre placed 10th
in 5:46.08.
Senior hurdler Aaliyah Gillespie also started well
with a fourth-place time of 8.90
secondss in the 60-meter hurdles.
Freshman sprinter Emily Wollet
placed fifth in the 400 in 59.26
while Danielle Bolt added a
sixth-place time of 7.67 in the
60-meter dash and an eighth-place
time of 25.66 in the 200. Jeanna
Cunningham placed 10th in the 200
with a 25.75.
In the throws, Katy Williams placed 11th in the
weight throw with a mark of 50 3/4
while Bethany Anderson placed 13th
in the shot put (41-11 1/2) and 14th
in the weight throw (49-6 1/2).
On the men's side, Scott Weiser placed sixth in the
400 with a time of 49.92 and added a
15th-place time of 22.80 in the 200.
Scott Striener placed seventh in the
200 in 22.54 and R.D. Goodright
placed 10th in the mile with a time
of 4:29.91. Jeremy Riehm placed 13th
in the 5,000 with a time of 15:36.56
while Ryan Petrick was 15th with a
time of 15:46.81. Kevin Steele
placed 14th in the shot put with a
mark of 45-9 3/4 and Donnie Hull
posted a 15th-place mark of 44-4
