Kruse Wins Mile, Anderson Resets Weight Throw Record
Bowling Green, Ohio -- Senior Nick Kruse won the
mile, and junior Bethany Anderson broke her own school record in the weight
throw for the second consecutive week as Youngstown State competed at the
All-Ohio Championships on Saturday.
Kruse ran a time of 4:22.85 to win by .45 seconds while
Anderson's mark of 60'10" earned her the victory by more than three feet.
Anderson's previous school record was 59'5".
Also on the men's side, J.D. Sheppard (1:57.31) and Harold
Jones (1:57.65) placed third and fifth in the 800m. Justin Dickman and Dan
Nemergut posted season-best times to finish fourth and fifth in the 5,000m.
Scott Streiner added a fifth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 23.03, and
Kruse placed seventh in the 3,000m.
Shayne York headed the field performances with a second-place
mark of 44'11" in the triple jump while Chris Goffer placed sixth in the long
jump. Aaron Merrill finished third in the shot put with a mark of 53'6.25", and
Joe Lahmon, Dom DeFilippo and Drew Weizer placed in the top seven in the weight
throw.
Jennifer Roman paced the women's running events with a
third-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:20.35, and Yandeh Joh placed
seventh in the 60m hurdles.
In the field events, Alisha Anthony placed third in the long
jump while Jen Grayson placed seventh in the high jump, Robyn Ray was seventh in
the triple jump and Anderson placed seventh in the shot put. Amy Hill added an
eighth-place finish in the weight throw.
The Penguins will compete at the Zips Open on Saturday.
