Penguins Open Track & Field Season at Golden Flash Gala

    Kent, Ohio -- Stephanie Jarvis broke her own school record in the pole vault and Jen Grayson placed second in the 60m hurdles as Youngstown State opened the 2006-07 track and field season at the Golden Flash Gala over the weekend.
    Jarvis posted a mark of 11-0 1/4 to finish third while Grayson ran a time of 9.19. Grayson and Robyn Ray also tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 5-3.
    Bethany Anderson finished third in the weight throw (57-7 3/4) and eighth in the shot put (44-4 1/4). Freshman Alisha Anthony finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 17-9 1/2, and Shantel Jackson sixth in the 800m run (2:21.43). Kristen Hill added a ninth-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 9-0 1/4.
    On the men's side, Aaron Merrill posted a seventh-place throw of 50-5 1/4 in the shot put while Clarence Howell finished seventh in the 60m dash (7.17). Joe Lahmon placed 10th in the weight throw (54-6 1/2), and Justin Dickman added a 10th-place time of 9:07.75 in the 3,000m time.
