Seniors Lead the Way at Jane Hermann Invitational
Bowling Green, Ohio -- Youngstown State seniors Lauren Blase and Robyn Ray put on strong displays for the Penguins as Blase captured first-place finishes in the mile and 3,000m, while Ray finished first in the triple jump and second in the high jump on Friday evening at the Jane Hermann Invitational.
Blase's personal-best, first-place time of 5:02.97 in the mile ranks second all-time in school-history. Blase won the 3,000m with a time of 10:15.97 and freshman Samantha Hamiltoin finished one spot behind in second with a time of 10:37.12.
Ray was able to capture first in triple jump by leaping a personal-best distance of 11.25m, which ranks sixth in school-history. Ray finished second in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.55m.
Junior Breanne Romeo also added another first-place finish for the Penguins as she won the 400m with a time of 59.06. Freshman Nicole Pachol took third in the event with a time of 1:03.64.
Sophomores Laura Kosiorek and Nicole Rymer also had impressive showings at the meet.
Kosiorek ran a time of 9.33 in the 60m hurdles and leaped 5.15m in the long jump to finish second in both events. Rymer finished in third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.44 and claimed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 4.89m.
Junior Marissa Oppper finished third in the weight throw with personal-best heave of 16.94m. The toss ranks fourth all-time in YSU history. Sophomore Kaitlyn Griffith also had a personal-best mark in the event as she finished fifth with a throw of 14.99m.
Junor Lisa Lee and freshman Symona Gregory added fourth-place finishes for the Penguins. Lee ran a time of 2:25.35 in the 800m, while Gregory finished the 60m dash with a time of 7.99.
The women's squad will return to Bowling Green in just over a week as both squads are slated to compete in the Tom Wright Classic on Jan. 30.
