Merrill and Tisia Combine for Four First-Place Finishes at Robert Morris
Moon Township, Pa. -- The Youngstown State men’s track and field team captured five first place finishes on Friday highlighted by two apiece from senior thrower Aaron Merrill and sophomore distance runner Kiplingat Tisia at the Robert Morris Invitational.
Merrill swept the throwing events as he was victorious in the weight throw with a distance of 16.25m and in the shot put with a mark of 16.52m. Tisia’s victories came in the mile with a time of 4:23.33 and in the 3,000m with a time of 9:15.16.
Senior Bryin Ehrhardt had the other first-place finish at the meet as he won the high jump by clearing 1.93m.
Freshmen Michael Davis and Tarelle Irwin each etched their names into the YSU record books with their preliminary times in the 55m dash. Davis ran a time of 6.36, which ranks second all-time, while Irwin’s time of 6.39 ranks third in school-history.
Juniors John Pallini and Jeremiah Folger each captured top-five finishes in the shot put. Pallini finished in second with a throw of 15.72m and Folger’s throw of 15.12m was good for fourth.
Jake Dialesandro and Scott Denham, both juniors, also performed well in distance events for the Penguins. Dialesandro competed in the 3,000m and finished third with a time of 9:20.21. Denham ran a mile time of 4:30.64 to finish fourth.
Freshman Jeff Hanselman finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.45m Fellow freshman Caleb Schwann had a toss of 15.15m in the weight throw to claim fourth.
The men’s squad will rejoin the women’s squad on Jan. 29, when they travel to Bowling Green to compete in the Tom Wright Classic.
