Michaelis Named Second-Team Academic All-District
Youngstown -- Youngstown State's 2002-03 Male Athlete
of the Year and Track and Field
All-American Kurt Michaelis
(Holgate, Ohio) was named to the
Verizon Academic Second-Team Track &
Field/Cross Country All-District IV
team, which was announced on
Thursday.
Michaelis, YSU's 2002-03 Male Athlete of theYear,
finished as an All-American at the NCAA
Indoor Track and Field
Championships, was named the Horizon
League Indoor Track and Field
Athlete of the Year, won the mile
championship at the Horizon League
Indoor Track and Field Championships
while leading YSU to its first
league title in school history and
has set school records in the
3,000-meter steeplechase (outdoor),
mile run (indoor) and 1,000-meter
run (indoor).
At the outdoor Horizon League meet, Michaelis won the 1,500
and placed second in the
steeplechase.
Competing this past year as a senior in indoor track and a
junior in cross country and outdoor
track, his fourth school record is
in the outdoor 1,500 meters.
He owns a 3.47 grade-point average in in Exercise Physiology. |
