Michaelis Wins 1,500-meter at All-Ohio Championships
Columbus, Ohio --
Junior Kurt Michaelis won the
1,500-meter run with a time of
3:52.44 as the Youngstown State
track and field team competed at the
All-Ohio Championships this weekend
at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
Lindsay Wojciak led the women with a fourth-place time of
11:48.18 in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase. The men finished
ninth at the meet while the women's
squad finished 13th.
The YSU men had a good showing in the 10k, where freshman
Dave Mealy finished fourth with a
time of 32:45.21 while Chris Hine
finished fifth with a time of
32:59.46. Also in the distance
events, Jeremy Rhiem and Nick Smith
finished 12th and 13th respectively
in the 5k while Ryan Petrick earned
a 15th-place finish in the 1,500.
Edwin Jackson led the sprint crew with a 13th-place finish in
both the 100 and 200 while Ryan
Strzalka finished 11th in the 400.
Adam Lewis finished ninth in the
400-meter hurdles and 13th in the
110 hurdles while Alvin Shavers
finished 15th in both hurdle events.
In the throwing events, Joseph Bruderly finished 12th in the
shot put.
On the women's side, Delores Gaines finished 12th in the shot
put and 16th in the hammer throw
while Beth Hochstetler earned the
13th-place spot in the discus.
Racheal Albert finished 14th in the 800 while Wojciak added a
17th-place finish in the 1,500.
Host Ohio State took both the men's and women's titles.
Members of the track and field teams also traveled to the
University of Tennessee for the Sea
Ray Relays over the weekend.
At the Relays, Michaelis nearly
broke the school record in the 800
with a 17th-place time of 1:50.63
while Petrick finished 21st with a
time of 1:51.80. Tony Orcena
added a 12-th place finish in the 5k
with a time of 15:14.05.
The track and field teams will compete at the Penn Relays on
April 24. |
