Freeman Wins 100-Meter Hurdles as Shortened Squad Competes at Akron Quad
    Akron, Ohio -- Youngstown State's Satara Freeman won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.90 seconds as a shortened YSU squad competed at the Akron Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon.
    While Freeman and other YSU athletes were competing at Akron's indoor facility because of wet track conditions, the majority of the squad's runners were stuck in a six-hour traffic jam en route to the meet.
    The throws were the only events to be held outside.
    Freeman added a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles in 48.35 while Cassandra Smith was eighth in the 100 hurdles and Leslie Johnson was 10th in the 400.
    In the field events, Carly Youlton placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 11 1/2 inches while Nikki Hooper placed fifth with a mark of 35-6. Yandeh Joh placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17-10 1/4 while Youlton jumped 17-1 1/4 to finish seventh. Estee Rogers added a sixth-place showing in the high jump with a mark of 4-11 3/4 and Darla Wilson placed ninth in the pole vault with a mark of 8-0 1/2.
     Bethany Anderson placed fourth in the hammer invitational with a mark of 160-0 while Amy Hill was fifth in the open hammer (156-5). Katy Williams placed ninth and Lindsay Cobey was tenth in the invitational event. Hill added a fifth-place finish in ths discus with a mark of 129-8 while Williams was sixth (128-11), Amanda Barbone was eighth (115-6) and Cobey placed ninth (111-7). Anderson added a seventh-place heave of 42-4 3/4 in the shot put and Hill, Cobey and Rogers claimed the seventh through ninth spots in the javelin.
    On the men's side, Joe Lahmon was the high-finisher with a third-place mark of 154-5 in the javelin while Jason Greenamyer placed fifth in the event with a throw of 139-2. Greenamyer added a fifth-place mark in the long jump (20-11 1/4) and was seventh in the high jump (5-10 3/4) and the 110 hurdles (15.04). Kyle Dalton placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 6-0 3/4 while Lahmon also placed seventh in the hammer (143-9). Nick Rodland added a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 44-5 1/4.
    YSU also had bad luck earlier in the season when the Ohio State Relays were cancelled due to snow.
    The Penguins will compete in the YSU Heptathlon/Decathlon on Monday and Tuesday at 2 p.m. before going to the Penn Relays on Thursday.
