Schnitkey Qualifies for NCAA Regional in
Steeplechase at Penn Relays
Philadelphia -- Youngstown State junior Emily
Schnitkey qualified for the NCAA
Mideast Regional and broke her own
school record in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase at the Penn Relays to
highlight YSU's weekend at the
Relays and the Sparky Adams
Invitational.
Schnitkey ran a time of 10:44.75 to place tenth in the event
to surpass her previous best by
nearly a second and beat the
qualifying time of 10:52.10.
Also at the meet, Bethany Anderson placed fifth in the shot
put with a mark of 45-3 1/4 while
Yandeh Joh finished 14th in the long
jump (17-3). Katy Williams placed
14th in the discus with a mark of
134-8 while Amy Hill was 18th at
126-9.
On the men's side, Nick Smith placed 13th in the steeplechase
with a personal-best time of 9:19.46
while Nick Buzek finished 35th in
the Olympic Development 5,000 with a
time of 14:49.32.
Aaliyah Gillespie, Brittny Humprhey and Dave Mealy each
picked up individual victories at
the Sparky Adams Invitational on
Saturday at Baldwin-Wallace.
Gillespie took top honors in the 100 hurdles with a time of
14.22 while Humphrey won the 400
hurdles with a time of 1:06.66.
Mealy's ran a time of 15:08.86 in
the 5,000 to pick up the victory.
Jeanna Cunningham placed second in the 100 (12.14) and third
in the 200 (25.01) to head up the
sprint events while Leslie Johnson
placed fifth in the 400 (58.48).
Satara Freeman added a second-place
finish in the 100 hurdles with a
mark of 14.31. Schnitkey took second
in the 1,500 with a mark of 4:43.69
while Marielle Glanz clocked in with
a time of 2:19.12 to place fourth in
the 800. Lindsay Wojciak placed
fifth in the steeplechase in
12:00.93.
In the field, Nikki Hooper placed fourth in the triple jump
with a mark of 35-1 while Joh
finished fifth in the long jump with
a mark of 17-5 1/2.
Hill placed fourth in the hammer with a mark of 148-4 to head
up the throws while Williams was
fifth in the discus with a mark of
137-3.
Matt Paullin finished two spots behind Mealy in the 5,000
with a third-place time of 15:34.19
while Scott Streiner added an
eighth-place time of 22.43 in the
200. Joe Lahmon placed fifth in the
hammer with a mark of 155-9 while
Nick Rodland finished ninth in the
shot put with a mark of 44-9. |
