Aaron Merrill
Named Third-Team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA
Academic All-America
Youngstown -- Aaron Merrill was named third-team
ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American, the College Sports Information
Directors of America organization announced on Thursday. Merrill becomes the
11th YSU student-athlete to garner Academic All-America honors and first since
2006.
Merrill
(Leetonia, Ohio) had a standout
performance during the outdoor
campaign in 2009 while he redshirted
during the indoor slate.
Merrill placed
eighth at the Mideast Regionals with
a school-record distance of 17.93m
in the shot put. At the Horizon
League Outdoor Championships he won
the shot and the discus, while
placing second in the hammer.
A graduate student at YSU, Merrill owns a degree in Criminal
Justice where he finished with a
3.77 grade-point average.
YSU had two
Academic All-America selections in
the spring of 2006 when throw Jarrod
Davis was named first-team and
baseball standout Brandon Caipen was
a second-team honoree. Merrill joins
Davis as the only two track and
field athletes to be named Academic
All-American in school history. |
