Boscaljon Named to All-Tournament
Team as YSU Falls in Imports Finale
Columbus, Ohio -- Youngstown State kept up with a
hot-hitting Ohio State team but fell in straight sets in the final match for
both teams at the Ohio State Sports Imports Classic on Saturday.
Ohio State hit .429 as a team in the match, including .438 in
the second set when YSU fell short, 25-21.
Ruth Boscaljon had five kills on 15 attempts after posting 22
kills against Toledo yesterday. Boscaljon finished the three-match weekend with
34 kills and a .492 percentage to earn all-tournament team honors.
Ebony Barbosa had eight kills to lead YSU while Haley
Kapferer had six and four blocks.
Kaila Calhoun had 15 kills on a .591 percentage to lead the
Buckeyes.
Ohio State scored seven straight points to turn a narrow
13-10 lead in the first set into a 25-17 victory, and it led by the same
margin in set two. The Penguins kept the difference within five, and Barbosa's
ace that made the score 22-21 capped a 6-2 run. A Penguins' attack error gave
the Buckeyes a point and the serve, and Calhoun recorded two straight kills to
preserve the win.
The Buckeyes opened up a 10-3 lead in the final set and kept
at a least a five point lead the rest of the way in a 25-15 victory.
The Penguins finished the tournament with the third-best
record, picking up a win against Toledo and dropping competitive matches to
Xavier and Ohio State. The Musketeers went 3-0 over the weekend, winning each of
their matches in four sets.
YSU will travel south next weekend for the Comfort Suites
49er Tournament hosted by Charlotte. |
