Everhart Has
Triple-Double in Volleyball's
Four-Set Loss to Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh,
Pa. -- Youngstown State senior
setter had a rare triple-double with
32 assists, 13 digs and 11 kills in
the Penguins' four-set loss to
Pittsburgh on Tuesday evening.
Everhart's 11 kills were a career-high against the Big-East
leading Panthers. Ruth Boscaljon
added 12 kills while Ebony Barbosa
had 10 for the Penguins.
Kelly Campbell had 26 kills and hit .490 while Amy Town
registered 14 kills on a .429
percentage for Pitt.
The Penguins and Panthers batted through 26 ties and 10 lead
changes in the match. YSU blocked
seven more attacks than Pitt (11-4),
but the Penguins hit .203 compared
to the Panthers' .299.
The first set featured 11 ties and six lead changes before
Pitt scored six of the final eight
points to win 25-21. Neither team
led by more than three before Pitt
went ahead 24-21.
The Panthers hit .429 behind nine kills from Campbell in the
second set to win 25-19, but the
Penguins rebounded to win the third
set 25-22. YSU registered five
blocks in the third set and
benefitted from two service errors
and three receiving errors that Pitt
committed.
The Penguins hit a match-best .324 in the fourth set and made
a 7-3 run late to get within one on
several occasions before falling
25-23. Campbell posted 11 kills and
had 20 of Pitt's 42 attempts during
the final set.
YSU will play at Loyola and UIC this weekend. |
