Boscaljon, Roidt Earn Horizon League Postseason Honors
Youngstown -- Youngstown State senior Ruth Boscaljon and freshman Angela Roidt have been honored by the Horizon League for their outstanding 2009 volleyball season.
Boscaljon, a middle hitter from Elgin, Ill., was named All-Horizon League for the second time in her career. Roidt, a setter from McFarland, Wis., joined Boscaljon and three other Penguins in school history to be named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.
Boscaljon closed out a remarkable career with an admirable senior campaign. She laced 348 kills and had 126 blocks, which averaged out to career-bests with 3.31 kills and 1.20 blocks per set. Boscaljon finished the regular season leading the Horizon League in blocks while ranking second in hitting percentage (.318) and points (4.32 per set) and sixth in kills. She ends her career with 1,340 kills and 490 total blocks and a school-record .301 attack percentage. She’ll leave YSU ranking second in career blocks and third in career kills.
Roidt had a strong season as a freshman setter and was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer team. The McFarland, Wis., native averaged 9.78 assists per set, had 30 blocks and served 11 aces in her first season on campus. Her 9.78 assists per set ranks as the 11th-best rate in for a season school history and the second-best among freshmen. She was the primary setter in six of YSU's seven wins during the year.
In addition to Boscaljon, Jessica Fraley earned all-newcomer honors in 2004 while Angie Pasquinelli and Nickole Kennedy were recognized in 2002.
Cleveland State senior Beth Greulich was named the Player of the Year, Milwaukee senior Lauren Felsing earned Defensive Player of the Year, Valparaiso freshman Taylor Root was the Newcomer of the Year and CSU's Chuck Voss was voted the Coach of the Year.
