2007-08 Women's Basketball Campaign
Marked By Improvements, Accolades
The 2007-08
Youngstown State women's basketball
season was one which was marked with
several team and individual
accolades. Below is a list of the
Penguins' accomplishment this past
year.
• The Penguins
won 14 regular season games, which
is the most since the 1999-2000
squad won 22. The Guins also matched
the school-mark for most Horizon
League victories with eight. The
2001-02 team also won eight league
contests.
• Senior
Lauren Branson moved into a tie for
fifth place on the YSU all-time
assists chart with 493.
• Branson's
167 assists in 2007-08 rank fourth
on the single-season while her 159
in 2004-05 rank sixth. Branson also
led the league in total assists and
5.4 assists per game this season.
• Senior
Heather Karner set the YSU
single-season 3-pointers made record
with 87, breaking the old mark of 78
set by Tiffany Adams in 1992-93.
• Karner led
the team with 434 points and became
the first player to score at least
400 points since the 2001-02 season.
Her point total also ranks tied for
19th on the YSU single-season chart.
• Junior Tiara
Scott was named All-Horizon League
Second-Team after averaging 13.1
points per game. Scott also averaged
15 points and 6.6 rebounds per game
against League opponents. She is
also the third YSU player in the
last four years to garner Horizon
League All-Newcomer Team accolades.
• Scott's 405
points ranks 25th on the YSU
single-season scoring chart while
her 54.5 field-goal percentage ranks
seventh.
• Karner and
Scott are the first pair of players
to score at 400 points in the same
season since 1997-98 - Ann Marie
Martin (506), Caroline McCombs (437)
and Teresita Jones (402).
• Branson was
named to the Horizon League
All-Defensive Team.
• Junior
Ashley Pendleton moved into a tie
for ninth place on the YSU all-time
blocks chart with 60 after swatting
33 shots in 2007-08. Her 33 blocks
this year rank eighth on the
single-season list.
• Branson also
finished her career as YSU's top
career free-throw shooter with an
82.4 free-throw percentage.
• Scott also
made 24 consecutive free throws from
Dec. 21, 2007, to Jan. 19, 2008.
That total ranks sixth on the
single-season list.
• Branson,
Karner and senior Jessica Schloemp
became the seventh, eighth and ninth
player, respectively, to start a
school record 31 games in a season.
• Schloemp
also moved into a tie for
sixth-place with 114 games played in
a career. Her 618 career rebounds
also rank 10th all-time. |
