Women's Basketball Volunteers at Park Vista Retirement Community

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team completed its second community service activity in the past three weeks on Friday at the Park Vista Retirement Community of Youngstown.
The student-athletes and coaching staff hand-stirred apple butter that was later sold at the 36th Annual Park Vista Apple Butter Festival. All proceeds benefitted the Park Vista Life Care Fund, which provides continuing care to retirement communities and services to Youngstown residents.
Longtime YSU supporter Helen Stambaugh has organized the event since its inception in 1972.
"Coach Martin has emphasized our team getting out in the community in a variety of service projects over the school year," assistant coach Shannon Sword said. "Our work Friday was for a great cause. The event also provided an opportunity for our new student-athletes and coaching staff to meet Helen Stambaugh, who has done so much for the Youngstown community and YSU athletics."
The next scheduled service project is Sunday at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown. Team members will volunteer their time as servers at the monthly spaghetti dinner from noon to 3 p.m.
