Women's Basketball Serves Spaghetti at Youngstown Church

Youngstown -- Members of the Youngstown State women's basketball team volunteered their services at the monthly spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown on Sunday.
Student-athletes and coaches served around 900 people at the monthly event, which occurred from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Social Hall. The team carried trays for elderly attendees, served food, bussed tables, cleaned trays, assisted in preparing food and greeted guests.
"The ladies worked extremely hard, and our staff is proud of their efforts," YSU head women's basketball coach Cindy Martin said. "This wasn't a glamorous community service project. We all had to get our hands dirty and hustle.
"At the end of the day, it was worth all the effort to see the smiles on the faces of the people we served and visited with."
This was the third community service project the team has completed in just over three weeks. Student-athletes also participated with the YSU freshman move-in day on Aug. 23 and the Park Vista Apple Butter Festival on Sept. 5.
