Brown, Coaches Hope Rebound Record is First of Many Successes

    Youngstown -- Youngstown State freshman Brandi Brown and the Penguins’ coaching staff is hoping that Feb. 6, 2010, is the first of many record-breaking days for the young forward in what has started to be a very promising career – to say the least.
    Brown broke YSU’s freshman rebounding record against UIC on Saturday, surpassing Jen Perugini’s previous mark of 239 in 28 games that was set in 2001-02. Perugini was voted the Horizon League Newcomer of the Year that same season. Release

Offensive Off-Day Outweighs Solid Effort in 72-53 Loss to UIC
Kenya Middlebrooks       Youngstown -- An off day on the offensive end outweighed a solid rebounding effort for the Youngstown State women's basketball team as the Penguins fell 72-53 to UIC on Saturday.
    The Penguins shot 25.4 percent, but they were able to hang with the Flames for 34 minutes because of their hustling. YSU outrebounded the Flames 42-35, and 22 of those were on the offensive end. Release | Stats
Guins Entertain Flames in Annual 'Pink Zone' Game on Saturday
Kenya Middlebrooks       Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team will try to carry momentum from a solid outing on Thursday when it hosts UIC on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.. The Guins lost 63-59 on Thursday against Loyola in their closest game of the season. YSU will participate in the WBCA Pink Zone to help raise awareness and donations for the fight against breast cancer. Release
Valiant Penguin Effort Falls Just Short Against Loyola, 63-59
Rachael Manuel       Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team put forth a solid all-around effort but came up just short in a 63-59 loss to Loyola on Thursday night at the Beeghly Center.
   YSU had four chances late to overcome a two-point deficit, but misfired each time in a 16-second span. Elyse VanBogaert broke a 59-59 tie with 31 seconds left on her sixth bucket of the second half. Release | Stats | Martin Audio
Penguins Hope to Open Second Half on High Note vs. Loyola
Bojana Dimitrov       Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team opens its second half of Horizon League play against Loyola on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at Beeghly Center. Loyola has lost its last two games since upsetting No. 14/18 Green Bay on Jan. 21.
    General admission tickets, hot dogs and pop corn will all be available for $1 as part of a special "Dollar Day" promotion. Release | Notes | Live Coverage
