Men Capture Team Title; Schnitkey Claims Women's Individual Crown at
BGSU Invite
Bowling Green, Ohio -- The Youngstown State men's
cross country team used five runners
placing in the top 12 en route to
capturing the team title at the
Inaugural Bowling Green Invitational
on Saturday morning.
Emily Schnitkey won the women's individual crown with a time
of 18:15 as the YSU women placed
third.
Jeremy Riehm paced the men's team with a third-place time of
26:11 on the 8K course. Chris Hine
placed fifth in 26:33 while Dave
Mealy finished one spot back in
sixth-place with a 26:36. Matt
Paullin placed eighth with a time of
26:47 while Nick Smith rounded out
the scoring five as he clocked in
with a 12th-place time of 27:29. J.
D. Sheppard finished 20th in 28:02
and R. D. Goodright placed 26th in
28:26.
The Penguins edged out the University of Western Ontario
34-45 while Bowling Green was third
with 73 points. The win was
the first for the YSU program since
the men won the 1999 Walt Disney
Invitational.
On the women’s side, Lindsay Wojciak placed 11th with a 5K
time of 19:04 while Kim Jendre
finished 14th in 19:15. Marielle
Glanz placed 21st in 19:38 and Gina
Mavrikis placed 24th in 19:43 to
complete the top five. Katie Krupko
came in 35th with a time of 20:50
while Debbie Breunig clocked in with
a 45th-place time of 22:39.
“Both teams ran awesome today,” head coach Brian Gorby said.
“I’m very satisfied with our efforts
and this should be a huge confidence
builder going into the conference
meet.”
The Penguins will compete in the Horizon League Championship
on Oct. 30.
