Freshman Jake Lape Named Horizon League Athlete of the Week

    Indianapolis -- Youngstown State freshman Jake Lape has been named the Horizon League Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
    Lape, a native of Boardman, Ohio, finished 76th to lead the Penguins to their best-ever finish at the Iona Meet of Champions on Saturday.
    He was one of three freshmen among YSU's five scoring runners. He covered the hilly 8K course at Van Cortlandt Park in 27:09.9 to lead the Penguins to a 10th-place finish.
    Lape is the first YSU freshman to earn the league's weekly honor since Lisa Davies in 2003.
