Familiar and successful individuals on the national sports and business scene, Denise and John York have been major supporters with their resources and time to Youngstown State University and the athletic department.

The York's helped in the development of Stambaugh Stadium's DeBartolo Stadium Club and in February 2002 made a contribution of $500,000 to YSU's women's athletic programs. Their most recent contribution to the university was a $1.5 million donation for the Wellness and Recreation Center set to open next fall. Also, the Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Scholarship Foundation has provided thousands of dollars to area high school students to continue their higher education at YSU.

With more than 25 years experience in the field of sports management and real estate development and operations, Denise DeBartolo York has received accolades as one of the most successful business women in the United States.

DeBartolo York serves as chairman of The DeBartolo Corporation and overseas the Corporation's portfolio, including the five time world champion San Francisco 49ers. DeBartolo York, who previously served as Executive Vice President of Personnel and Corporate Marketing/Communications for The Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation, was instrumental in the development of the corporation's employee programs and communication tools. Based on her accomplishments, she was elevated to the position of Vice Chairman in April 1994. After the death of her father, Edward J. DeBartolo in December 1994, DeBartolo York was named Chairman. In February 2001, the assets of her father's estate were equally distributed between Denise and her brother, Edward Jr., with Denise retaining ownership of the San Francisco 49ers, among other resources and properties.

As owner of the San Francisco 49ers, John York has been instrumental in guiding the organization through on of the most difficult transitions in team history, rebuilding the 49ers and putting a senior management team in place to run the operations of the franchise on a day to day basis.

York's drive to succeed is immeasurable. Since stepping into a leadership role with the 49ers, York has had to handle a variety of issues to clearly define the vision and direction of the organization. For example, simply look at how the 49ers rebounded from the crisis that struck the organization in 1999, the first year the York's owned the team. By putting together a highly successful senior management team, the 49ers went from a 4-12 team to a Super Bowl contender in just two seasons.

Aside from his duties with the 49ers, York doubles as the President of the DeBartolo Corporation, where he oversees the day to day operations of the corporation's profile. A member of the Board of Directors, York is essential in steering the DeBartolo Corporation's other business responsibilities while maintaining interests in several other ventures.

John and Denise are the parents of two sons and twin daughters.
