Chris Sumner serves as the Athletic Department's Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Event Management. Sumner, a native of nearby Champion, joined the Penguins' staff in June 2017.
Sumner has a strong background in game management having spent seven seasons with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the short-season Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
As a group sales manager and account executive, he was responsible for daily operations including sales calls, scheduling clientappointments and achieving sales goals. He also managed all personal accounts to provide the highest level of customer service throughout the season.
He also was a member of the Cleveland Indians' promotion team and spent a year working in the University of Akron Marketing Department as an undergrad.
Sumner, who coaches eighth grade basketball, earned his bachelor's degree from Akron in December 2010 in Sport Managment.
