Youngstown -- Six student-athletes on the Youngstown State baseball team read baseball books to elementary school children at the Legacy Academy for Leaders & Arts in Youngstown on Wednesday morning.

Zac McFarland, Phil Lipari, Robert Switka, Cody Dearth, Ryan Messmer and Chris Mitko read five books to about 20 students at the school. The session was part of the "World Series of Reading" being held by the school.

"Our players really enjoyed coming out today to take part in the 'World Series of Reading'," Youngstown State head coach Rich Pasquale said. "To see the look on the children's faces was priceless. Giving of your time is very important to this program, and I hope our players will continue giving of themselves long after their YSU playing days.

The players also answered questions related to baseball for the elementary students. The visit ended with the student-athletes and Pasquale joining the students in a singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".
