Youngstown State senior infielder Phil Lipari has been named the Horizon League male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Lipari is a finance major who holds a 3.82 grade point average at YSU. He has been named Academic All-Horizon League in each of the past two seasons and is an Academic All-District nominee. Green Bay softball player Marissa Michalkiewicz was the female honoree.

Lipari led the Penguins the month of March in batting average, runs scored, extra-base hits and slugging percentage. He batted .349 throughout the month's 13 games while hitting four doubles, a triple and a home run. The senior posted four multi-hit contests and tallied multiple RBI's in two of those games.

Lipari, a native of Poland, Ohio, was named Second-Team All-Horizon League at shortstop last season.

Lipari and the Penguins will play a three-game series at league-leading Wright State over the weekend. First pitch in Friday's opener is set for 6:30 p.m. at Nischwitz Stadium.
